You have done the work many founders skip. There are interactive Figma wireframes for every main screen and a written requirements document. Now you are stuck between two paths: hire a developer or agency to build the mobile app, or learn enough, perhaps with no-code tools or AI coding assistants, to build it yourself.
The practical answer: if the app needs user accounts, a backend, payments, integrations or sensitive data, hire experienced developers for the first version and spend your own time on users, testing and the product. Build it yourself only if the app is simple, you are willing to spend months learning, and a slow or imperfect first version will not cost you a market window. A useful middle option is a clickable prototype or no-code test to validate demand, followed by a professional build of what users actually respond to.
What your wireframes do not tell a developer yet
Good wireframes answer “what does the user see.” Developers also need to know:
- Data: what is stored, where, and who can see it
- Accounts and roles: sign-up, login, permissions, admin users
- Integrations: payments, maps, calendars, messaging, third-party APIs
- States and edge cases: empty screens, errors, offline behaviour, loading
- Notifications: what triggers them and when
- Platforms: iOS, Android or both; minimum OS versions
- Non-functional needs: security, privacy, accessibility, expected scale
Adding these to your requirements makes quotes more accurate and avoids surprises.
Build yourself, no-code, or hire
| Path | Fits when | Risks |
|---|---|---|
| Learn and build yourself | Simple app, no sensitive data, time to learn, technical aptitude | Slow progress, security gaps, rework later |
| No-code or low-code platform | Validating demand, internal tools, standard workflows | Platform limits, lock-in, scaling and performance constraints |
| Freelance developer | Clear scope, modest complexity, you can manage the project | Single point of failure, variable quality |
| Agency or dedicated team | Backend, integrations, both platforms, ongoing releases | Higher cost; choose carefully and own your code |

Costs that exist either way
- Apple Developer Program membership is 99 US dollars per year.
- Google Play charges a one-time 25 US dollar registration fee, and new personal developer accounts created after November 2023 must meet testing requirements before publishing.
- Backend hosting, databases, email and SMS services, analytics and crash reporting.
- Ongoing updates as iOS, Android and store requirements change.
Maintenance is often underestimated. If you plan to build yourself and hand over later, read whether a non-developer can keep a complex app going with AI tools.
A sensible sequence
- Test the wireframes with real users before writing code. Fix the flows that confuse people.
- Cut scope to a first version that proves the core value.
- Write the technical requirements listed above, or pay for a short discovery phase to produce them.
- Get two or three quotes on the same scope, with a breakdown by feature.
- Insist on owning code repositories, store accounts and cloud accounts.
- Release to testers early and iterate.
A hypothetical example: a founder with wireframes for a booking app tests a clickable prototype with 20 target users, removes three features nobody used, and hires a small team to build iOS and Android with a shared codebase. The first version ships sooner because the scope is smaller.
From wireframes to a working app
Well-prepared wireframes are a strong start; turning them into a secure, maintainable app is where experience matters. AB7 Solutions provides mobile app development for iOS and Android, backend and API development, discovery workshops to turn wireframes into technical requirements, and ongoing maintenance, with you owning the code and accounts. If your app is simple enough to validate with a no-code tool first, we will recommend that.
Share your Figma file and requirements, and we will tell you what is missing and outline realistic build options.
